Kick A Ginger Stupidity
Let's all be very clear when we talk about or describe "Kick A Ginger Day", which occurred this week all across Canada. It was a prank that went out of control, started by a Courtenay, B.C. resident and his followers on a popular social network. More than 5,000 followers/members participated by either assaulting "red headed kids", or at the very least, watched these children get continuously kicked or hit.
I personally, am having a hard time believing this "gentleman" from Courtenay could gather 5,000 like minded bullies.
Canadians have a proud heritage as peace-keepers and protectors of diversity. This includes Canadians and people of the world with "Red hair and Freckles"! The fact is, the "gentleman" from Courtenay said he saw a re-run on Comedy Central called South Park, a show first broadcast in 2005, and helped turn it into a national spectacle in 2008!
This is not South Parks fault. In fact, South Park tries to educate their viewers about prejudices, racism, bulling and other social ill's that plague most schools and office work places. South Park gives them all a poke in the eye, and laughs at them with total abandon.
Where are the parents?
Street Smart Kidz would like to see the following happen, for everyone involved in this National Canadian Embarrassment.
1. Every child convicted of a assault "during this event" should be suspended for the remainder of the year
2. When the assaults are tallied up, the "gentleman" from Courtenay B.C. should be charged with that many assaults and hate crimes
3. Every child convicted of assault, should automatically be charged with a hate crime
4. Nova Scotia should be held up as a shining example, as to how to handle "social networks" in our schools by using the Netsweeper filter.. New Brunswick is now on line with Newfoundland and Labrador following, with GTA of Toronto very close behind
5. Every school should have Netsweeper as their filter to stop all "social network usage" on school equipment and suspend anyone caught doing it on personal equipment while on school property
6. This alone will stop 55% of school cyber-bullying
So where is the down side?
Only schools, with parents support can make this happen. So lets get on it! We can do this! The reason we must act now, is because a new bunch "social network problems" is emerging. On one site they have proclaimed December 5th, 2008 as "Kick The Non-Ginger Day". That means all the parents of blonde or brunette children get to see and feel what the red headed children went through.
Last but not least, when will the "social networks" take responsibility for the content that gets posted on their sites?
